Graphite Electrodes

Graphite electrode is the main role in electric arc furnace smelting metal electrode conductive use. Due to the global, more and more electric arc furnace smelting steel, the use of electric arc furnace smelting steel and other secondary into other smelting steel is the main project of consumption of graphite electrode. In addition, graphite electrode has been used in smelting furnace, used for melting non-ferrous metals, ceramics, even waste recycling industry.

What grades of graphite electrode together with carbon can provide?

A specific application may require different levels of electrodes, to match the existing furnace melt and reduce the overall cost. Usually, according to the quality level, graphite electrode can be divided into the following three criteria:

1、There are no more than two defects or holes on the surface of the electrode and the size shall not exceed the value in the following table..
2、There is no transverse crack or longitudinal crack with width of 0.3-1.0 on the surface of the electrode. The length of longitudinal crack is not more than 5% of the perimeter of the electrode. The crack with width less than 0.3mm shall be ignored .
3、The width of black skin area on the surface of the electrode is less than 1/10 of the perimeter of the electrode and its length is less than 1/3 of the length of the electrode.

Installation instructions of electrode nipple 



Before installing the graphite electrode nipple, the nipple hole shall be cleaned with the compressed air..

The center line shall be kept consistent while the electrode connection.

The electrode holder shall be located outside the two warning lines of the nipple connection part.

Before the electrode is tightened, the dust on its end face shall be removed with the compressed air.

1.Before connecting the electrode, its threads shall be firstly cleaned up, and when the nipple is carefully screwed in one end of electrode, the lifting nipple shall be screwed in the other end thereof, without colliding the thread. It is not recommended that, the nipple is directly installed on the electrode being used on the furnace.   
2.The steel wool or metal brush and abrasive cloth are not allowed to clean up the threads of electrode, but the compressed air free of oil and water can be used only.   
3.The rotatable elastic hook shall be used, and the soft support pad shall be put below the electrode nipple, to prevent from damaging the thread.   
4.Before connecting the electrode, its hole shall be cleaned up with the compressed air free of oil and water.

5.The electrode shall be lifted and conveyed on the furnace with the elastic hook for centering, slowly moved down, slightly screwed in, and then, tightened with shroud ring. 
6.The shroud ring is screwed with special calipers according to the specified torque, and either mechanical or hydraulic way is adopted. The air pressure equipment shall be screwed to the specified torque.   
7.No contact between the sections of two electrodes or too big contact pressure will affect the normal use of electrode. Please refer to the torque specified in the Figure.   
8.The electrode holder must be located within the two white warning lines. The contact surface between the holder and electrode shall be frequently cleaned, to keep the good contact with the electrode. The water leakage is strictly prohibited in the cooling water jacket of holder.

9.To avoid the electrode from breaking off, the insulating materials shall not be provided in the furnace. The working current of electrode shall be adapted to the allowable current of electrode in the Instructions.   
10.To avoid the electrode from breaking off, the block materials should be placed at the bottom of the electrode, and the small materials should be placed at the top thereof. 
11.

High power graphite electrode when use in advance on the stove for drying, temperature not to exceed 150 degrees, not more than 24 hours.


12.

High power graphite electrode, in the use of ladle should use special tool to cut, and shall not use the crane to cut.
