Problems and gaps
There is an objective gap between the raw materials used in producing ultra-high power graphite electrode in China. The raw materials used in producing graphite electrode in Japan and the United States are stable in source and reliable in quality. Due to the supply problem of needle coke in China, graphite electrode manufacturers have to change suppliers and raw material ratio frequently. Moreover, there is still a certain quality gap between domestic needle coke and imported needle coke.
Subjectively speaking, the manufacturers of ultra-high power graphite electrode in China have mixed Daqing petroleum coke or Fushun petroleum coke with lower price, even other petroleum coke from the point of view of reducing cost. Moreover, a single needle coke is not needed in the production of ultra-high power electrodes by individual manufacturers, at best increasing the number of impregnation. Using such electrodes as ultra-high power electrodes will inevitably lead to confusion in the market price and seriously endanger the interests of many manufacturers.
The production of ordinary power electrodes also has the problem of raw materials. Especially for graphite electrodes with diameters of 500 mm and 600 mm, the easily graphitized Daqing or Fushun petroleum coke is usually selected as raw materials. However, in order to reduce costs, many small and medium-sized enterprises in China choose Huludao coke or worse petroleum coke as raw materials. In the production process, there will be a large number of waste products, and eventually in the use of users appear high consumption, block loss and other issues.
The special electrode pitch is used in the production of graphite electrode in foreign countries, and the modified pitch is produced by domestic asphalt manufacturers under continuous efforts. The electrode quality of many manufacturers has been improved, but there is still a process to be promoted.
